BrightOak Solar Financing Problems? Understand Your Agreement and Options

If your BrightOak solar agreement does not match what you were promised, Bennett Legal can review your contract, payment records, and install history. We also look at some BrightOak power purchase agreements (PPAs) when there is documented proof of a filed UCC-1. Any installer may qualify. Your installer does not need to be on a list.

Have a BrightOak PPA?

A BrightOak PPA qualifies only with documented proof of a filed UCC-1. We need the contract and the filing, not just a company name or a search result.

You can ask for help while you gather documents.

A clear place to begin

  • Find your agreement and the company named in it.
  • Gather your promises, bills, and install records.
  • For a PPA, find the recorded UCC-1 filing.

Start with your contract

Is Your Agreement a Loan or a PPA?

Look at the top of your contract and the names on it. A loan pays for the system. A power purchase agreement, or PPA, covers the power the system makes. Your papers tell us the next step.

Your document checklist

Choose an agreement type above to see which documents to gather. If you are not sure, you can still ask for help. This checklist does not decide if the firm can take your matter.

BrightOak, Lumifi, and OakStar Explained

BrightOak is a former name of Lumifi, based on the older Lumifi website. That site also calls Lumifi a division of OakStar Bank and sends solar loan and lease payments to OakStar.

These public notes do not tell us who owns or services your agreement. Your contract does. We read it to see who is named. Not every Lumifi or OakStar account is a BrightOak matter we can take. Bennett Legal is not affiliated with BrightOak.

A UCC-1 is a public filing. It shows a company says it has an interest in property, like solar equipment. It can turn up in your papers or when you sell or refinance.

How to find a UCC-1 filing

For BrightOak PPAs

BrightOak PPA and the Recorded UCC-1 Requirement

To review a BrightOak PPA, we need your contract and documented proof of a filed UCC-1. You do the county and state searches first.

  1. 1. Search both places

Check your county property records and your state's UCC records. A filing can be in either place or both.

  2. 2. Send the proof

Send the whole contract and the UCC-1 filing. Clear screenshots of every page and the filing details work too.

  3. 3. Ask if you get stuck

Tell us where you looked. Intake staff search only if you cannot find the filing. The firm then reviews the proof and the facts.

Your questions

Common Questions About BrightOak Solar Financing

Is BrightOak the same as Lumifi?

BrightOak is a former name of Lumifi, based on the older Lumifi website. That site also calls Lumifi a division of OakStar Bank. These public notes do not tell us who owns or services your agreement today. Your contract does. Send the whole agreement and a recent statement so we can see who is named. Not every Lumifi or OakStar account is a BrightOak matter we can take.

Does Bennett Legal review BrightOak PPAs?

Yes. A BrightOak PPA may be reviewed when you have your contract and documented proof of a UCC-1 filing. Your installer does not need to be on any list. Asking for help does not mean we have taken your case.

Can you review my BrightOak solar loan?

We can review it. Start with your loan agreement, your install contract, your payment statements, and what the salesperson told you. The UCC-1 proof step is for BrightOak PPAs only. Your installer does not need to be on a list. An attorney still has to review your papers.

What if my BrightOak payments or bills look wrong?

Keep your statements, your contract, and any messages about changes. Compare them with what you were promised. An attorney has to review the papers before anyone can say what they mean. This page does not tell you to stop paying.

Can I ask for help before I find the UCC-1?

Yes. You can send a first inquiry now. Tell us what you have and where you looked. That does not mean the firm has taken your case. For a BrightOak PPA, we still need the contract and the recorded UCC-1 proof.

Can my BrightOak financing contract be challenged?

It depends on what you signed, what you were told, the facts, and the law. We cannot promise that a contract can be cancelled. An attorney has to review your papers first.

What if my panels do not work or were never turned on?

Keep your contracts, permits, photos, and messages about the problem. Keep any notice from the utility that the system may be turned on (permission to operate). A system that is off does not by itself decide what your finance agreement says. An attorney has to review the contract and the facts. This page does not tell you to stop paying.

What if my installer went out of business?

A closed or bankrupt installer does not automatically end a separate finance agreement. Gather your install contract, finance agreement, payment history, and messages about the work. An attorney can look at how the facts and contract terms may affect your options. This page does not tell you to stop paying.

What if I am selling or refinancing my home?

Tell us early if you have a sale or refinance deadline. Share your payoff amount and any recorded filings you find so we can look at them. A public filing can come up during a sale or refinance. Not every filing is the same, and this page cannot say what yours means.

Does a UCC-1 search result prove that I have a case?

No. A search result is not a legal answer. We also look at the filing, your contract, any changes or endings to it, and what happened when you signed and when the system was installed. No result is promised. You are not our client until the firm agrees to represent you.

Free Case Evaluation

  1. Step 1

    Tell us about your agreement

Say who the financing company is and what went wrong.

  2. Step 2

    Share the records you have

Contracts, statements, messages. Send what you have now. You can add more later.

  3. Step 3

We review what we can do

We look at your agreement and the facts, then tell you if we can help.

You can begin while you gather documents. Sending a form or a document does not mean we accept your case.

For a BrightOak PPA, we still need the contract and documented proof of a filed UCC-1. Please send documents through intake, not a public review or social media comment.

Planning to sell or refinance your home? Tell us when you first reach out, and share any deadline.
